Found this awesome article on how to get vinyl off the paper backing.
Another trick I have found is to flip the vinyl upside down on a flat surface and peel it up. Normally you peel the transfer tape off the paper. The upside method, you peel the paper backing off while making sure the vinyl sticks to the tape.
